Why two quotes rarely match.

A cheap quote usually skips a step — most commonly the sub-base. Here's what an honest installer prices in, and why it matters over 15 years of frost, sun and traffic.

Base condition

A sound existing tarmac or concrete base can be overlaid. Failed, cracked or gravel bases need excavating and a new SUDS-compliant sub-base — typically £25–£45/m² on top.

Aggregate choice

Standard UK-blended aggregates sit at the lower end. Premium Marshalls, natural Bardon or imported marble blends add £8–£20/m².

Edging & drainage

Block-paved borders, ACO channel drains and new gullies are priced by the linear metre. Plan £45–£90/m for kerb-lifted or paved edges.

Access & waste

Tight rear-garden access, skip permits or long haulage distances add labour hours. We flag this at the site visit — never after start.

Depth & traffic loading

18mm domestic finish is standard. 24mm+ for regular van, caravan or trade traffic — typically 15% more resin and aggregate.

Groundworks & levels

Re-profiling for water run-off, new manhole covers to match, or lowered kerbs from the council are separate line items on the quote.

How much does a resin driveway cost in the UK in 2026?
For a typical Midlands driveway of 40–80m² on a sound existing base, budget £75–£95 per m² fully installed — around £3,800–£7,600 all-in. Smaller drives cost more per m² because mobilisation, resin batching and site setup are largely fixed costs.
What's included in the price we quote?
Survey, sub-base check, edge restraints where needed, permeable resin-bound installation, waste removal and a 10-year workmanship guarantee. Everything appears as a line item — there are no day-rate extras added after we start.
Do I need a new base?
Not always. A sound tarmac or concrete base in good condition can be overlaid, which is the cheapest route. Cracked, sunken, gravel or block-paved surfaces need excavating and a new open-graded sub-base — typically £25–£45 per m² on top of the resin cost.
Is a resin driveway cheaper than block paving or tarmac?
Tarmac is usually cheapest up front (£45–£70/m²), block paving is the most expensive (£90–£140/m²), and resin sits in the middle. Over a 15–20 year lifespan resin usually works out cheaper than block paving because there's no re-sanding, weeding or lifting to replace.
How long does installation take?
A typical driveway is laid in 1–2 days once the base is ready. If we're excavating and installing a new sub-base, allow 3–5 working days in total. The surface is walk-on the next morning and drive-on after 24–48 hours depending on temperature.
Do I need planning permission?
No — our resin-bound installations are fully permeable and SUDS-compliant, so they fall under permitted development in England and Wales. We can supply the specification for your records.
